On December 25, 2001, the
life of Michael Smith of Atlanta was changed
forever. He received a very special gift...a
little new baby girl.
Michael had chosen the name Jessica Ann Smith
for his little new bundle of joy. Pages 5 & 6

It seemed to Michael that
Jessie might never be born. Yet she finally
arrived, at Baptist Hospital at exactly 6:59
p.m.
Michael was filled with joy when he heard Dr.
Sharp say, "Congratulations, you have a
beautiful little girl."
Page 8
Wrapped snugly in a soft,
warm blanket, Jessie was handed to Michael, who
held his little miracle for the first time. He
thought Jessie was such a beautiful baby and
that she was so cuddly and small.

Jessie's birth was a new
beginning for her daddy. Jessie will get all of
the love and care she needs from her new family
and she will bring lots of joy and happiness to
Daddy's life.

As soon as Jessie was born,
she was placed on the scales.
Her weight was
7 pounds, 8 ounces,
and she was
17 1/2 inches long.

Friends and family were
anxiously awaiting Jessie's birth. When they
heard the good news, they showered her with many
gifts. Some were clothes, some were blankets to
keep her nice and warm, some were bottles, and
some were diapers, of course.
Page 16
All of the nurses thought
that Jessie was the cutest little girl they had
ever seen, and they enjoyed taking care of her.
Even the doctors were amazed at this little new
arrival into the world.

After Jessie came home from
the hospital, she soon settled into her daily
routines.
Even though it could be messy, Michael thought
bathtime with Jessie was still fun. Afterwards,
he gently covered her with powder and dressed
her in tiny warm, baby clothes. Page 20
Michael thought about all the
babies who are born all around the world and
realized how all parents must feel...that their
baby is the most beautiful of all. And they are
right.

Many people came to visit
Jessie. Aunt Denise had been eagerly waiting for
Jessie to be born. When she saw Jessie, she
thought she was the most precious little person
ever, and that her skin was very soft and
smooth. Page 24
Every day, Michael thinks of
how blessed he is that Jessie has become a part
of his life and how full his life will be in the
years ahead. There will be laughter and joy,
boo-boos and tears, and really big hugs to chase
away the fears. Pages 25 &

Daddy is looking forward to
Jessie's first smile, the first time she crawls,
her first steps, the first time she feeds
herself, and even that all important potty
training time.
Page 28
Often, on bright sunny days,
Daddy sits outside and just holds and cuddles
Jessie. He enjoys rocking her and singing to
her. As he looks at Jessie, his heart is full of
love for this special little gift he has
received.

Daddy enjoys taking care of
Jessie, but sometimes others like to help.
Sometimes they read to her, sometimes they help
feed her, and sometimes they help give Jessie
her bath. These are special times to all those
who love Jessie.
Page 32
While Daddy was waiting for
Jessie to be born, he prepared a room especially
for her. In this room, Daddy placed a cozy, warm
bed for Jessie to sleep in. He also placed a big
rocking chair there so that he can hold and rock
her, or just sit and look at her.

Sometimes, Daddy takes Jessie
for long walks. Jessie just smiles, coos, and
makes cute little faces all along the way. As he
walks, Daddy thinks about all of the plans he
has for Jessie's future and all of the exciting
things they will do together as a family. They
will make memories that will last forever.
